These things we do not lay upon you as a rule; but so these things may be fulfilled in the spirit, not in the letter, for the letter
killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

General
This entire site, including our chat and ramblings, is open to the entire globe including (we should hope) youngsters who are the next generation for this hobby. No swearing please, nor reference to unsuitable material. We're absolutist about this because that's simplest, so no asterisks, euphemisms or allusions to swearwords please, even mild ones.
No politics. No defamation or patronising tone please. My own rule of
thumb is to consider carefully any sentence containing the word 'you'.
I've learnt that by rewording phrases to start with "I", I'm less
liable to offend.
Authorship
You must give your name (i.e. nom de GRC) as the first line on any page other than Fiddle Yard or navigation pages.Editing
It is possible to edit any page. Some pages, such as this and the daily pages, are shared and some, such as an individual's railway pages, are more personal. Please don't edit a personal page unless you agree it with the author, or it fits the Correction Policy belowOnly one person can edit a page at once, so please only stay editing a shared page long enough to complete your edit.
Correction Policy
We
want these pages to be of high quality so errors may be fixed, by
anyone, without notice. If you find a page has a typo or similar error
on it, it is acceptable (and far simpler) to just go in and fix it.Pages that contain complex errors, such as those of formatting, odd use of headings, oversized images, errant links, etc., may also get edited without notice but that's more likely to be by one of the admins.
Photographs
The space is limited. Pictures uploaded here should be kept to under 150kb. If you accidentally upload a big file please let someone know who can go and delete it.If you have your pictures on other sites, such as Picasa or Photobucket, you can just refer to them with a link; and then they don't use any of our quota at all.
The recommended maximum size of photos is 800 pixels wide. Set the displayed size as 'medium' (The M option) unless there are good reasons to do otherwise.
Links
Links to external websites should open in a new window. When inserting a link, there is an option down in the bottom left hand corner to open the link in a new window. Please check this box for external links.Links to pages on GRC should not normally have this box ticked.
Page Settings
After you have created your page please consider the 'page settings'. Look under 'More Actions' for 'Page Settings'.- Most pages will benefit from un-ticking the 'Attachments' option.
- Consider if 'Comments' are appropriate to that page, and remove that option too if they're not.
Text Format
Avoid imposing explicit text fonts and sizes, etc., and keep to
the 'normal' format instead. This helps keep a uniform style
across the site, and makes it easier for browsers to accommodate
readers with disabilities.
If you want to change the text style, please do so with the in-built editor. Problems usually occur if pages are pasted in from other web-page editors or
things like Word. If you want to draft something off-line, do so in Notepad.
Headings
Don't use the H2 heading style, because it is oversized and we can't change it.
Similarly, to provide a listing of the pages below the current page, insert a "Sub-Page Listing" from the Insert menu. I recommend replacing the slightly geek'y default "Subpages listing" with "Contents".
By default, sub-pages they will be listed at the bottom of the page, as links. If they are duplicate clutter, remove them using the Page Settings (see above).
Headings
Use the H3, H4 settings (under
the Format menu) for headings. You may not especially like the
resulting style but it will then be consistent across the site.
Don't use the H2 heading style, because it is oversized and we can't change it.
Table of Contents / Subpages
The block at the top of this page is a Table of Contents, inserted via the Insert menu. It automatically updates itself with the contents of the page, but only if you use the H3, H4 headings (see above).Similarly, to provide a listing of the pages below the current page, insert a "Sub-Page Listing" from the Insert menu. I recommend replacing the slightly geek'y default "Subpages listing" with "Contents".
By default, sub-pages they will be listed at the bottom of the page, as links. If they are duplicate clutter, remove them using the Page Settings (see above).
